The University of Hohenheim (UHOH) is the leading University in agricultural research and food sciences in Germany and is ranked #3 in Europe. With its three faculties of agriculture, natural science and social and economic sciences, the university is able to address holistically most aspects of the food system. It has extensive experimental stations with associated acreages that make it possible to carry out field research. UHOH maintains an international network with numerous partners and has a strong foothold in Africa and Emerging Countries. UHOH carries out interdisciplinary teaching and research, finding solutions for key global challenges like transforming the economy to a biobased one, addressing resource shortages and environmental challenges taing social and economic aspects into account.

The Hohenheim Research Center for Bioeconomy (HRCB) is a central inter-faculty research network of UHOH aiming to strengthen the UHOH’s scientific potential in the field of Bioeconomy with special emphasis on sustainable agricultural production. HRCB has long experience in coordination of national (BMBF, BMEL) and European multi-partner projects (FP6, FP7, HORIZON 2020). Expertise includes business model development, technology transfer, dissemination and communication to industry, especially SMEs and small farmers. It has a wide regional and european network of stakeholders in the agri-food sector while it forms part of the EIT’s Knowledge and Innovation Communities (EIT Food). HRCB is also involved in a variety of other extension activities supporting farmers and small scale food producers in their efforts to increase the quality & safety of raw and processed products. HRCB regularly counducts workshops and training activities at regional, national and European level; visit farms & food processing facilities; consult farmers to adopt available smart technologies and user- friendly ICT solutions in the agri-food sector.
