The University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour (UPPA) was founded in 1972 and is a multi-site establishment, based in Pau but also in in the Adour river basin, being the third largest university in southwestern France, with some 12,000 students. UPPA annually hosts nearly 60 foreign faculty members and over 1,400 international students from Europe and around the world. With Erasmus agreements and interuniversity cooperation worldwide bilateral agreements UPPA participates in exchanges of students, teachers and researchers. Due to its geographical situation, UPPA develops original border university cooperation with Spain in the field of teaching and research.
UPPA has been awarded recently an excellence initiative “Energy and Environment Solutions” and this project belongs to the scientific objectives of this initiative Future Investment Label The aim of the "Future Investments Program" call for projects is to enable France to have a higher education and research that is visible internationally and is capable of being competitive in the field of innovation and technology. As such, French institutions have participated in IDEX and ISITE calls for projects. These have allowed to label recognized establishments of excellence and high potential. Winner of the second I-SITE Future Investments Program (Initiatives Science Innovation, Territories, Economy), the UPPA is now part of this club.
