The Animal Science Institute of LUHS/ASI is the main research institute in Lithuania established for the fundamental and applied research in livestock production on international and national level. The mission of Institute - to create new knowledge for sustainable development of animal production and contribute to the development of safe and high-quality food products which guarantees social and economic progress of the country and quality of life. Recently, more attention is focused on sustainable animal farming systems and measures for reduction of pollution in animal husbandry. The Institute works in close co-operation with farmers’ associations, animal breeding services, manufacturing industry and participates in various national and international programmes. The scientists of Institute actively participated in several FP7 projects and currently participate in HORIZON 2020 projects: ERA-NET- Cofund SusAn, H2020-SFS-2015-2 ReDiverse, H2020-SFS-2014-2 TREASURE, also, in COST activity COST FA1302 METHAGENE and CA15134 GroupHouseNet.
