Ghent University was established in 1817. More than 125 departments, spread over 11 faculties, offer high quality and research-based educational programmes in almost each scientific discipline. The University scores high in the international rankings: 70 (Shanghai ranking) and 85 (THE). Currently there are about 9000 staff members and over 41000 students. Ghent University is very active on the international scene: Erasmus success story, ECTS label, one of the strongest universities in Erasmus Mundus and Tempus. UGent coordinates 11 Erasmus Mundus Action 2 projects, of which 4 are with Southeast Asia (Lotus). UGent is partner in 13 running EMA2 projects worldwide. Ghent University is active in many research projects (FP7, now Horizon 202), a number of collaborative development projects, financed by both national (VLIR: Flemish Interuniversity Council, DGDC, BTC) and international organisations (Unesco etc). In september 2014, UGent officially opened a branch campus in Incheon, South-Korea. The Ghent University Global Campus in South-Korea offers 3 BA degree programs: Molecular Biotechnology, Environmental Technology, and Food Technology.
