Description: 

The University of Food Technologies (UFT), Plovdiv is a prestigious national education and science centre for food science, technology and engineering. It provides internationally acknowledged training which complies with all the requirements of the Public Education Act in the Republic of Bulgaria. The university offers programs in the areas of food industry, biotechnology, foodservice, tourism, industrial management, heat engineering, mechanical and instrument engineering, machines, apparatus and equipment for the food industry and biotechnology, computer systems and technologies, automation, information and control.
The main campus covers an area of 17,000 square meters. Classes are held at four buildings, including a 450-seat auditorium, three 300-seat lecture halls, a large number of lecture, seminar and computer rooms and over 50 state-of-the-art laboratories. There is a central library, which features over 150,000 volumes of specialised educational and scientific literature, a 100-seat reading room, and some off-site branches.
An average of 3,300 students per year receives training at the UFT: 2,200 in full-time and 1,100 in part-time mode of training. Accommodation is offered in the five student hostels with a total of 1,500 beds. The refectory, which is in proximity to the teaching facilities, caters for all students. The UFT also owns a modern sports complex in Plovdiv.
The University’s employees come to approximately 415 people. The 205 academic staff employed by virtue of permanent contracts include 30 full professors and 90 associate professors. One hundred and seventeen of the lecturers hold PhD degrees, and a further twenty hold Doctor of Science degrees. Several dozens of lecturers, who are eminent specialists from various scientific institutes and manufacturing companies, teach at the UFT part-time. The highly qualified research scientists solve theoretical and practical problems in the field of food science and technology, biotechnology, economics and tourism. The scientific research sector of the UFT consists of a central research laboratory with sections for chemical, physical, physicochemical and microbiological analysis and a pilot plant for biotechnological production.
