IMCS was established in 1959 as a Computing Centre of research character. The staff of IMCS consists of 150 researchers, engineers and software developers. For all these years, the Institute has played the role of an incubator for rearing of leading specialists in Computer Science and Mathematics in Latvia.
The main activities of IMCS are:
- research and development (Internet technologies and their applications, system modelling and design, simulation of physical and technological processes, semantic web, natural language processing, real time systems, theoretical investigations in mathematics, bioinformatics, quantum computing etc.);
- innovative software and hardware development;
- maintenance of national data security incidents team CERT;
- IMCS hosts an essential part of master's degree studies in computer science at the University of Latvia (more than 200 master's degree students on the program);
IMCS is a member of ARTEMISIA.
