University Studies: 1977, Agricultural University of Athens (BSc). Postgraduate Studies: 1988, Agricultural University of Athens (MSc). Doctorate: 1995, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Laboratory of Remote Sensing and GIS (PhD). Scientific / Professional activity : 1981 - now: Institute of Soil Classification and Mapping. Member of the "Greek National Space Committee" of GSR&T of the Hellenic Ministry of Development. Visiting Professor of the University of Thessaly (UTH) and the Technological Educational Institution of Larissa (TEI). Scientific Publications He has participated in many conferences in Greece and worldwide and has published more than 100 papers in books, scientific journals and conference proceedings. Participation in Research Projects He is leader and participant in several research projects and bilateral co-operation programmes at national and European level, dealing with the application of Remote Sensing in land use mapping and the application of earth observation in agriculture, using advanced techniques, with the analysis of visible, infrared and radar spectral satellite data for monitoring agricultural crops from space. He has also participated in agrometeorological and environmental projects, αmong them the “Calamities Information System” has been characterised as a key project for EU Common Agricultural Policy. He is the National Delegate and the Remote Sensing Working Group Leader in COST action ES 1106 (domain Earth System Science and Environmental Management) project “'Assessment of EUROpean AGRIculture WATer use and trade under climate change (EURO-AGRIWAT)'”, studing how the study of the Water Footprint and the Virtual Water trade assessment can benefit from the use of remotely sensed data. Soil mapping and precision agriculture are also among his interesting domains. Integrated geo-information systems (RS, GIS, GPS) and methodologies were developed for the National Ministry of Agriculture “Geographical Sampling” projects and for the integrated land parcel identification system (ILPIS) and the cotton parcel control, based on high resolution satellite and ground data.
